Truths and misconceptions about Probiotics

Even while probiotic products from Healblend and their advantages are increasing in popularity, many people still have misunderstandings about them. We want to dispel some common misconceptions about probiotics in this piece.

How many different kinds of probiotics are out there?

No.

Beneficial bacteria come in many varieties, each with its own unique set of properties. A vast variety of probiotic supplements are available, each with its own distinct benefits. This specific strain of bacteria is responsible for the health benefits, not all bacteria. If a product states that it contains Lactobacillus rhamnosus but doesn’t specify which strain, it’s possible that it contains LGG, GR-1, or any other Lactobacillus rhamnosus strain that isn’t LGG. It’s also possible that there isn’t enough scientific evidence to substantiate the health benefits for each of these strains.

Is it better to take probiotics with a greater bacterial count?

Not always, of course.

If a probiotic product contains more bacteria, there is no assurance that it will have a greater effect on the body. Some types of probiotic bacteria need just a little number of bacteria to have their intended effect, while others require a considerably larger amount.

As a result, choosing a probiotic that has been scientifically linked to a particular health benefit at the level of investigation is much more important. This shows that not only does the strain matter for establishing the ideal dose, but so does the influence of the study conducted within a certain health area.

Is a probiotic product more effective if it includes more than one strain?

Not always, of course.

The presence of more than one strain of probiotic bacteria in a probiotic product does not always mean that the product is better. It is common to find a variety of multi-strain products on the market, but only a small number of these products have clinical evidence to support the exact strain mix that they include.

Probiotics that have been scientifically shown to provide health benefits, such as those found in particular strains or combinations of strains, should be the ones that are bought.

Do probiotic microbes exist in all fermented foods?

No

Fermented foods like kombucha, sauerkraut, and tempeh are made using microorganisms already present in the meal. To speed up the fermentation process, live bacteria may be introduced to a food product. Post-fermentation processing may include pasteurisation, baking or filtering of a product that has been fermented. The product can no longer be termed a probiotic since it does not contain any live bacteria at all after this treatment.

Live bacteria, demonstrated health benefits validated by human studies, and the correct bacteria count are all requirements for a product to be designated a probiotic.

A fermented product that does not meet the above mentioned criteria cannot be used to determine how much is consumed, nor can it be used to assess whether or not the projected health benefits have been shown by scientific study.
