What is knowing our own mental fortitude so important?

To start, there is no connection between machismo and mental toughness. Our ability to “be the best version of ourselves that we can be at any given time” is the fulcrum around which everything else rests. This is, without a doubt, one of the most crucial facets of development work for almost every person on the planet.

Numerous studies provide credence to this hypothesis of psychology. How one responds to the myriad strains, pressures, opportunities, and difficulties that life presents is heavily influenced by one’s degree of mental toughness. Health psychology is thought to be its progenitor. When seeking to learn about health, it is crucial to have this information. Sports psychology was the first to include the concept of “mental toughness” into the evaluation of performance, and this trend has continued to this day. The 75 hard challenge is essential here.

What new possibilities does it open up for us?

Mental toughness is separate from other commonly used personality qualities since it describes “how we think.” Most personality models and evaluations employed in the process of personal and professional growth are geared toward describing and predicting behaviour, or “what we do when presented with circumstances.” Without a doubt, this information is useful; but, it may not be as useful as discovering “why we behave the way we do.”

An appreciation of mental fortitude may provide the opportunity for such a viewpoint. This is crucial if we want to change our behaviour when it’s essential and understand why some individuals have difficulties from certain events while others don’t.

  • Study after study has shown that the ability to keep a positive attitude in the face of adversity is directly related to success in a variety of endeavours, including athletics, academics, business, and personal life.
  • Mental fortitude is also on the spectrum. Mental toughness on one end of the range, and mental sensitivity on the other.
  • These are not indications of good and bad, nor are they ways to classify people. In their own ways, both extremes may be powerful and weak. All of us occupy various positions on the spectrum.

A sensitive mind may still achieve great things, but doing so will need an understanding of one’s own vulnerabilities and the development of strategies for overcoming them. Those that are mentally strong may have the same experience. Because of their lack of insight into themselves, they may be disadvantaged.

Exactly what do we know, if anything, regarding mental toughness?

Remember that they are only labels for states of consciousness. They shine brightest when used alone or in conjunction with other variables to characterise behaviour. It is easy to see how they may be tied to a broad range of other issues that keep development practitioners, and especially those engaged in mentoring and coaching, very busy.

Can we really measure how mentally tough someone is?

Usually, we can keep an eye on people’s actions. The inner workings of another person’s mind are not something that can be easily investigated (or even in our own head). Unfortunately, this illness is often misdiagnosed since it is so easy to do so.
